Transportation Para educator – 2026‑2027 School Year
Position
Purpose:
The transportation para educator will assist the transportation staff by ensuring students are transported safely, orderly, and on time.
- Assist students to seats and appropriately secure them in child or wheelchair restraint systems.
- Help the driver maintain discipline on the bus, van, or suburban.
- Assist the driver with emergency evacuation of the bus, van, or suburban if necessary.
- Provide route information to substitute drivers as needed.
- Understand and abide by confidentiality mandates.
- Assist students as needed.
- Use the wheelchair lift on the bus as needed.
- Maintain data on students as required.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and other staff, and inform the Transportation Director and administration of behavioral concerns or incidents.
- Perform any other duties assigned by supervising staff.
Skills and Abilities
- Carry out instructions given in written or oral form.
- Work with a diverse group of individuals.
- Maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees, and others.
- Establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students with special needs.
- Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with students, staff, and others contacted in the course of work.
- Report work orally or in writing to the supervisor as required.
- Effective writing and verbal communication skills.
- Ensure regular attendance and punctuality.
- Any combination of education and experience that provides the required skills and knowledge for successful performance.
