Job Description
The Media Para educator position is an individual who assists our lead librarian during the school year with a number of items. The individual will help collect and keep an inventory of media and technology items, as well as conduct needed study hall sessions. An individual with media center experience is preferred, but not required. The position is hourly, and is in session during student school days.
EssentialPerformance Responsibilities
- Under the supervision of the Teacher Librarian, prepare the library for classroom activities and daily use.
- Work with small groups of students to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher.
- Assist individual students with finding materials, checking out books, etc.
- Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up by the teacher.
- Assist the teacher with non-instructional classroom duties.
- Assist with groups of students in the library.
- Assist with supervision as needed.
- Assist with supervision on field trips as needed.
- Participate in in-service training as specified by the Building Principal.
- Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents and coworkers.
- Ability to engage in self‑evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
- High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent)
- Experience working in a school setting a plus
Physical requirements vary by individual job assignment but requires a minimum of the following physical requirements: walking, standing, bending, carrying, climbing, lifting minimum of 50 pounds, driving, pushing, pulling, reaching, sitting, and stooping.
Working ConditionsVaried.
Terms of Employment178 day letter of assignment. Wage and work year to be established by the Board. Employment subject to provisions of board policy, state and federal law.
EvaluationPerformance will be evaluated annually by either the Assistant Principal or Building Principal, or in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of staff.
