Summary

The Maintenance Electrician L2 (MEL2) provides electrical maintenance and reliability services within the plant, executing with excellence and assisting critical electrical/instrumentation asset health improvement efforts. The MEL2 works closely with the MFI ARM team, plant maintenance personnel, and plant operations teams to develop, ensure, and execute preventative maintenance (PM), predictive maintenance (DPM), reliability‑centered maintenance (RCM), precision maintenance, and operator‑care programs. Responsibilities also include electrical/instrumentation equipment installation, troubleshooting, startup, and process improvement projects.

The position requires an electrical journeyman or maintenance electrician license and adherence to safety, food safety, and quality standards. The MEL2 must be available for scheduled work times, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Participate with electrical/instrumentation maintenance team members to ensure continuous safety, quality, delivery, and cost improvement.
  • Develop, implement, and champion precision maintenance techniques ensuring procedural compliance.
  • Identify, develop, and implement critical electrical/instrumentation maintenance and performance improvement projects.
  • Work with the Corporate Reliability Team to develop, implement, and review real‑time condition assessment data for all critical equipment.
  • Participate in critical equipment maintenance training and reliability procedures for spares and parts.
  • Participate in quality commissioning procedures for new or rebuilt equipment.
  • Work with vendors to address critical issues identified through root‑cause analysis and condition‑based maintenance programs.
  • Assist craftsman during critical maintenance assignments and in a teaching environment.
  • Utilize the MFI‑approved CMMS to manage, document, and support reliability reporting and decision making.
  • Keep accurate and up‑to‑date records, including SAP data, critical equipment, and regulatory documentation.
  • Provide input for root‑cause analysis and RCM to create an environment of continuous asset reliability improvement.
  • Maintain regulatory required licensure and adhere to NEC code to a journeyman level.
  • Promote and foster Michael Foods culture, values, and principles.
  • Act as a role model by demonstrating safe work behaviors, adhering to all safety policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to quality work practices, follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), maintain sanitary conditions, and ensure product quality.
  • Ensure required regulatory compliance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and experience required:

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent.
  • Associate’s degree, two‑year technical certificate, or relevant combination of experience showing electrical/instrumentation technical and leadership aptitude.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience as a maintenance electrician with emphasis on industry or manufacturing.
  • Training and competency in MFI MEL1 skills preferred.
  • Electrical license or certification required per regulations.
  • Training in NEC code to a journeyman level preferred.
  • Journeyman understanding of mechanical and/or electrical schematics and blueprints.
  • Understanding of PLC and equipment automation preferred.
  • Prior experience in SAP preferred.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent administrative and follow‑up skills to achieve successful maintenance and repair programs.
Physical Requirements

Regularly required to talk, listen, stand, walk, sit occasionally, use hands, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. May need to lift up to 60 pounds. Requires close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision and the ability to adjust focus. Exposed to a noisy environment with temperature variations.
