Position Summary: The Utility Technician/Mechanic is responsible for maintaining all PMs on HVAC, RTUs, and chiller equipment as well as maintaining the engine room and boiler equipment for the plant. Experience with ammonia and HVAC certifications is a plus and recommended. This position has the responsibility to comply with Safety work rules at all times as well as an obligation to reinforce Safety as a Core Value.
Ensures that all policies, procedures and activities related to Food Safety & Quality are followed and complied with uniformly, in an effort to reduce product and process variability.
Summary: The Utilities Maintenance Operator L1 (UMOL1) provides maintenance and reliability services within the plant, executing with excellence and assisting with water/gas/air systems asset health improvement efforts. The UMOL1 will ensure results while partnering with the plant maintenance team, plant operational team, and all other plant support teams for success. Responsibilities include safe operation of water/gas/air systems, preventive and corrective maintenance programs, technical troubleshooting, equipment installation, adjustments, startups, and process improvement projects.
Candidates must be self-starters willing to assist in operational, maintenance, and process responsibilities and KPI results. This role requires safety compliance and availability to work scheduled times, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operate, monitor, service and repair equipment for steam, refrigeration, water, compressed air and HVAC systems
- Perform rounds and logs of daily operations for engine room, boiler room and refrigeration equipment
- Test and monitor water samples for boiler and condenser towers
- Maintain and troubleshoot ammonia refrigeration compressors, condensers, pumps, vessels, purges, evaporators, heat exchangers, control valves and isolation valves following OEM guidelines
- Maintain and troubleshoot steam boilers, hot water heaters, HVAC systems and air compressors; provide general facility support
- Participate in the PSM Program
- Promote safe working habits and maintain positive morale
- Log time and material usage into SAP/SIGGA for PMs and corrective maintenance
- Housekeeping of engine rooms, boiler room, MCC rooms, shops, and other work areas
- Assist or perform PMs using SOPs, LOTO and P&
- Adhere to GMPs and reporting of any conditions affecting food safety and quality
- Able to work overtime and holidays when needed
- Responsible for training employees on relevant content
- Collaborate with water/gas/air systems maintenance/operations teams to continuously improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost
- Learn and apply Precision Maintenance techniques and ensure tolerances are met
- Participate in training for maintenance personnel and implement quality assurance and reliability procedures for critical systems
- Assist in quality commissioning for rebuilt or new equipment and support maintenance assignments
- Learn and perform technical troubleshooting with experienced personnel
- Utilize MFI approved CMMS to manage reliability reporting per MFI ARM standards
- Maintain accurate records (e.g., SAP data, regulatory documentation)
- Support root cause analysis and reliability improvements
