Job Description & How to Apply Below

Step into the heart of our plant every night

At 6:00 PM, the engine room hums to life. You make your rounds, scanning gauges and trends, listening for the subtle cues only a seasoned mechanic catches. Steam, refrigeration, water, compressed air, HVAC—these are the lifelines of our high‑performing food processing and distribution facility, and you’re the steady hand that keeps them reliable throughout the night.

As our Utility Technician/Mechanic on the night shift (2-2-3, 6 PM–6 AM), you’ll balance preventive maintenance with real‑time troubleshooting across plant utility systems: RTUs, chillers, boilers, HVAC, and a robust ammonia refrigeration operation. You’ll also play a key role in installations, startups, system adjustments, and ongoing process improvement across the site.

What you’ll take on
  • Operate, monitor, service, and repair plant systems for steam, refrigeration, water, compressed air, and HVAC
  • Perform rounds and maintain detailed logs for engine room, boiler room, and refrigeration assets
  • Test and monitor boiler and condenser tower water samples
  • Troubleshoot and maintain ammonia refrigeration equipment: compressors, condensers, pumps, vessels/recirculatory systems, purges, evaporators/RMAUs, heat exchangers, and control/isolation valves in line with OEM standards
  • Maintain and troubleshoot steam boilers, hot water heaters, HVAC systems, air compressors, and general facility support equipment
  • Participate in the PSM Program
  • Enter time and material usage for PMs and corrective work in SAP/SIGGA
  • Uphold housekeeping standards in engine rooms, boiler room, MCC rooms, shops, and all other work areas
  • Assist or perform PMs using SOPs, LOTO, and P&IDs
  • Train team members on relevant technical content
  • Work overtime and holidays when needed
Your background
  • High school diploma or equivalent required;
Associate’s degree or two‑year technical certificate preferred
  • 3 years of ammonia refrigeration utility experience required
  • Strong knowledge of boilers, industrial steam, and plant utility systems required
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical, piping, and electrical schematics/blueprints required
  • Preferred:
Ammonia Operator Training Level I or II, GCAP, RETA, CARO, or CIRO
  • Preferred: PSM and SAP experience
  • Preferred:
Experience collaborating with vendors and contractors
Schedule, pay, and perks
  • Pay: $31.50–$33.50 per hour + annual bonus
  • Annual 3% performance‑based pay increase
  • Night shift: 2‑2‑3, 6 PM–6 AM
  • OT available as desired
  • Great benefits package: health/dental/LI/DI coverage, 401(k), Employee Assistance Programs (counseling, coaching, online programs, etc.)
  • Sign‑on bonus potential
  • Career advancement opportunities and training
  • Company has overperformed and received higher bonus rates the last 3 years
Why this role, why now

This is a proven company that stayed resilient through COVID and economic downturns. With large leadership and growth potential, you’ll not only keep critical utilities running—you’ll help shape how we improve them going forward.
