We are seeking a motivated and experienced Construction Supervisor to oversee daily field operations across underground and aerial telecommunications construction projects. This role is responsible for leading field crews, coordinating subcontractors, enforcing safety standards, maintaining quality control, and ensuring projects are delivered on time and within scope.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced construction environment and has experience supporting fiber optic, OSP, broadband, utility, or telecommunications infrastructure projects. Position Overview
As a Construction Supervisor, you will serve as the direct link between field operations and management, ensuring construction activities are completed safely, efficiently, and according to customer and company standards.
You'll oversee crews performing aerial and underground construction activities while coordinating materials, equipment, schedules, and project reporting.
Key Responsibilities
Crew Leadership & Field Operations
- Supervise and support underground and aerial construction crews
- Lead teams consisting of operators, laborers, linemen, locators, and subcontractors
- Conduct daily tailgate meetings covering safety, production goals, and work plans
- Coach, mentor, and develop field personnel
- Hold crews accountable for safety, productivity, and quality standards
- Coordinate with foremen and project stakeholders to achieve schedule commitments
- Ensure crews have the tools, equipment, and resources needed for success
- Enforce compliance with OSHA, DOT, NESC, 811, and company safety standards
- Promote and maintain a safety-first culture across all job sites
- Ensure proper use of PPE, fall protection, trench protection, climbing equipment, and traffic control devices
- Document and investigate safety incidents, hazards, and near misses
- Exercise stop-work authority when unsafe conditions exist
- Review and approve safety documentation, including Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and pre-job briefings
- Conduct and document routine safety inspections throughout the week
- Review project prints, permits, utility locates, maps, and construction plans before mobilization
- Schedule work activities to maximize efficiency and production
- Oversee installation activities including:
- Trenching and excavation
- Directional boring
- Conduit installation
- Fiber optic construction
- Pole transfers
- Fiber lashing
- Slack storage
- Grounding systems
- Vault and cabinet installations
- Restoration activities
- Monitor installation quality and ensure compliance with engineering specifications
- Communicate field changes and project impacts to management in real time
- Maintain accurate redlines, as-builts, and project documentation
- Establish daily and weekly production goals
- Track labor hours, equipment utilization, and material consumption
- Monitor project progress and identify potential delays before they impact schedules
- Coordinate with engineering, logistics, warehouse personnel, permitting agencies, and subcontractors
- Proactively resolve material shortages, access issues, and operational challenges
- Support project managers with forecasting and performance reporting
- Serve as the primary liaison between field crews and management
- Provide progress updates and production reporting
- Communicate schedule changes, risks, and operational challenges
- Maintain accurate records regarding project status, safety documentation, and quality inspections
- Foster strong working relationships with customers, municipalities, subcontractors, and utility partners
- Experience supervising telecommunications, utility, construction, or OSP projects
- Working knowledge of aerial and underground telecommunications construction methods
- Experience leading field crews and coordinating subcontractors
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, permits, and engineering plans
- Strong understanding of project scheduling, coordination, and quality control
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make decisions under pressure
- Proficiency with digital reporting tools, tablets, and Microsoft Office applications
