The Paramedic's job function is to transport sick and injured persons by ambulance in a manner conducive to their safety and comfort and to administer Basic Life Support level pre-hospital care and treatment within the limits defined by the State of Ohio law and North Central EMS’ Medical Director.

• IV establishment and maintenance
• Use and apply EKG monitoring
• Determine need for intermediate vs. paramedic care and transfer care as regulated by local protocols and Ohio scope of practice
• Determine the nature and extent of illness and injury and establish priority for required pre-hospital emergency care
• Administer proper pre-hospital treatment to the patient at the scene and en route to the hospital
• Provide appropriate airway management to patients
• Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to patients
• Provide treatment for control of hemorrhage and shock
• Manage immobilization of suspected fractures and dislocations
• Apply appropriate dressings and bandages for wound care
• Assist in immediate delivery of childbirth and care for newborn infants
• Provide initial treatment to poison and burn patients
• Administer appropriate oxygen therapy to patients
• Assist paramedic by setting up heart monitor, IV lines and supplies, and intubation equipment

Required

High School or better in General.
