General

Summary:

Schedules all procedures for the Operating Room, Central Scheduling, Ambulatory Surgery including the Treatment, Cystoscopy and Endoscopy Suites.

Reports to:

Education, Licensure, Registration and

Experience:

Equivalent to four years of high school with working knowledge of medical terminology.

Operating Room procedures/terminology and admitting procedures.

Must have ability to communicate effectively and record information accurately.

Minimum of one year of scheduling experience and experience with PC inputting/typing.

Essential Functions:

Maintains knowledge of all operative software and maintenance routines.

Schedules all elective surgical procedures.

Promotes a positive and professional image.

Responsible for effective and efficient OR scheduling and utilization.

Attends all required Safety Training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, specific job related hazards.

Follows the Hospital Exposure Control Plans/Bloodborne and Airborne Pathogens.

Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment.

Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter and intra departmentally to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives.

Participates in the monitoring of operative information system quality control and its evaluation.

Accurately identifies real/potential problems affecting the service and implements solutions with follow through and communication.

Prepares and distributes surgery schedule.

Operates computer terminal.

Schedules all appointments that require prior authorization.

Maintains prior authorization lists ensuring it is obtained prior to patients arrival.

Standards of Employment:

Attends all mandatory education programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety and regulatory compliance.

Appearance is professional, neat, clean, and appropriate for the work environment. Wears proper photoidentification badge while on duty.

Maintains confidentiality of all hospital and patient information at all times, as observed by peers and management.

Attends monthly staff meetings and participates in monthly rounding process with manager to assure effective and timely two-way communications.

Participates in and completes required department specific education and training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to department safety and specific job-related hazards.

Follows safety and security policies including exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens.
