General

Summary:

The EMT-B's job function is to transport sick and injured persons by ambulance in a manner conducive to their safety and comfort. They are to administer Basic and Advanced Life Support level pre-hospital care and treatment within the limits defined by the State of Ohio law and North Central EMS’ Medical Director.

The paramedic is an extension of the EMT and must initially and continually, utilize basic EMT level skills on every call he or she is involved in.

Essential Functions:
  • Develops, directs, delegates, and participates in the plan of both BLS and ALS patient care in the pre-hospital setting utilizing both written medical guidelines as established by NCEMS’ Medical Director and direct medical control with hospital emergency departments via radio and/or telephone communications.
  • Recognizes the need for and administers Advanced Life Support procedures when the patient condition warrants.
  • Is proficient in Basic and Advanced Life Support levels of patient care, and able to integrate each effectively to produce optimal patient care.
  • Provide care that is observant and responsive to patient needs as they arise.
  • Assures the presence and functionality of all ALS level equipment and its replacement and restocking if used.
  • Assumes responsibility for proper documentation of ALS level of care when instituted
  • Adheres to the shift change policy/checklist at the beginning and end of every shift.
  • Assumes responsibility for proper disposal and/or cleaning of contaminated material in compliance with State rules and regulations.
Qualifications Education
Preferred

High School or better in General.
