Manages individualized, goal‑directed pre‑operative nursing care through use of the nursing process and the principles of primary nursing in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures.

Education, Licensure, Registration and Experience
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Current registration as RN in Ohio or eligibility to obtain registration
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification
  • Demonstrated proficiency in acute care nursing, knowledge, and skills
Essential Functions
  • Implements medical plan of care, nursing interventions, and procedures necessary for patient care.
  • Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care to assure integration of information by the healthcare team.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the assessment and care from the pediatric to geriatric population and their family/caregiver.
  • Ensures the sterility of the field and follows principles and processes of sterile technique.
  • Assembles necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment prior to case start; demonstrates proficiency in operation of surgical equipment.
  • Performs sponge, needle, and instrument counts according to policy and procedure.
  • Collects, labels, and transports specimens to designated drop‑off areas.
  • Provides safe transfer of care with communication handoff to the next phase of care.
  • Administers and records medications, including commonly used medications (actions, dose, side effects).
  • Participates in surgical “Time Out” and “Sign Out” process with the surgical team.
  • Participates in operating room turnover, restocks supplies, and assists with room prep.
  • Prepares next day's procedure equipment and supplies; checks C‑Section suite set‑up preparedness.
  • Maintains organized workspace and demonstrates time‑management and organizational skills.
  • Troubleshoots technology and equipment issues.
  • Completes all department‑specific and required annual competencies.
  • RNFA responsibilities—including assisting with closure, suturing techniques, hemostasis, etc.—as directed by the surgeon.
  • CHARGE responsibilities—providing feedback, teamwork, huddles, conflict resolution, liaison duties, and scheduling to maximize patient flow.
Working Conditions
  • Stand/Walk – 6‑8 hrs
  • Sit – 1‑2 hrs
  • Bend, squat, climb – up to 1/3 of time
  • Lift, carry, push, pull – up to 1/3 of time
  • Precise motor function – right/left hand; gross motor function – right/left foot
  • Maximum lift: 25 pounds – up to 1/3 or more of the time
  • Body fluid exposure – Yes
