Job Summary:

Middle School English Teacher South Shore Charter Public School (SSCPS) is a diverse kindergarten through grade twelve free public charter school that serves 1,200 students. Our mission, Inspiring every student to excel in academics, service, and life, guides all we do as an educational institution. Our students come from over thirty-one communities along the South Shore; the top five districts our students come to us from are Weymouth, Brockton, Randolph, Rockland, and Abington.

Our families bring a panoply of cultural and racial diversity to our community, representing many different countries of origin with over 40 different languages spoken  make up the SSCPS student body, 59% of our students are people of color and 9% of our student body are English Language Learners. At SSCPS, we take pride in our unique curriculum designed to prepare students for higher education while offering them an incredibly diverse and welcoming learning environment.

SSCPS teachers are expected to cultivate and sustain meaningful partnerships with families from diverse backgrounds. The role of an SSCPS teacher is to support student achievement and student wellbeing each day. An SSCPS teacher will foster school improvement by demonstrating high expectations for all students and a commitment to providing the support required to attain these expectations.

An SSCPS teacher must demonstrate cultural competencies and antiracist leadership through behaviors and decision-making both in and out of the classroom. An SSCPS teacher works hard to maintain a collegial environment that honors the teaching profession and encourages continuous learning. An SSCPS teacher manages conflicts and fosters consensus building in the classroom as well as throughout the school community.
Reports to: -Subject Area Curriculum Coordinator
-Principal Full Time Status = 100% FTE = 40 hours per week

Essential Job Functions:

- Supports the philosophy and mission of the school as well as the school's projects/FITS/workshops and goals.

- Plans, prepares, organizes, and delivers student learning experiences.

- Motivates, guides, and directs the students in study skills, social emotional learning, and academic learning.

- Proposes new ideas to the administration and helps to implement and evaluate existing ones.

- Is motivated towards professional development and growth in the teaching profession.

- Meets all the requirements of the Massachusetts Department of Education regarding teacher credentials to teach in a Massachusetts Public Charter School. Professional Expectations:

- Faculty members are expected to be available for all assignments by 7:45 a.m. and to remain in the building until 3:30 p.m. If the need to leave the building arises, faculty must notify the appropriate administrator or Assistant Principal and sign out of the building.

- Should a faculty member need to be absent from school, the Principal's Administrative Assistant must be notified following the "Calling in Absent" policy and procedures that are outlined in the Employee Guidebook. Teachers should supply assignments on Google Classroom, or indicate the locations of the substitute packet materials. .

- Faculty are expected to be in attendance 3-5 days prior to the opening of the school year, and be available or on call five days after the completion of exams after the year's close.

- Teachers should follow the curriculum established by the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and the grade/department.

- Personalities, grades, and student-teacher relationships or interactions are not matters of public information.

- Student information is private and may be released only according to federal, state, and school regulations in consultation with the Principal. The teacher possesses the right and the responsibility to review the records of all students assigned to his/her classes. The teacher may not review the records of other students.
