Land Surveyor
Position SummaryThe Land Surveyor is responsible for performing field and office surveying work to support construction, engineering, and residential land development projects. This role ensures accurate measurements, boundary determinations, and site data collection necessary for successful project planning and execution.
The ideal candidate combines technical expertise, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and precision while working collaboratively with project teams, engineers, and clients.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct boundary, topographic, construction layout, and as-built surveys.
- Operate survey equipment including GPS systems, robotic total stations, data collectors, drones, and laser scanners.
- Establish control points, benchmarks, and construction layout staking.
- Interpret plans, legal descriptions, deeds, plats, and engineering drawings.
- Collect and verify field data to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare survey reports, maps, and documentation.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, contractors, and field personnel.
- Ensure surveys comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Maintain and calibrate surveying equipment.
- Follow company safety procedures and job site requirements.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering Technology, Geomatics, or related field preferred.
- 0-5+ years of land surveying experience preferred.
- Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license or ability to obtain licensure strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with survey software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Carlson, Trimble Business Center, or similar platforms.
- Experience with GPS, total stations, and digital data collection systems.
- Strong understanding of construction layout and boundary surveying principles.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying terrain and weather conditions.
- Ability to walk long distances and stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry survey equipment up to 50 pounds.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects.
- Self-motivated with a commitment to accuracy and quality.
