Clean Harbors is seeking a highly motivated and committed attorney, preferably with experience (i) leading an in-house litigation team for a public company with a sizeable matter portfolio, and (ii) managing insurance claims. Candidates will need to demonstrate strong leadership and mentoring capabilities, legal and business acumen, effective communication skills, and willingness to travel. The position will sit in Norwell, MA, and report to the General Counsel as part of a lean and dynamic Law Department.

- Develop and manage high-level strategies for litigation and litigation avoidance.
- Oversee insurance claim administration.
- Oversee, advise, mentor and develop a team of junior attorneys and/or claims administrators.
- Collaborate with and manage outside litigation counsel, litigation service providers and insurers.
- Travel to, attend and serve as the Company's representative in hearings, depositions, arbitrations and mediations as necessary.
- Use technology and data to drive resource optimization and efficiencies.
- Work cross-functionally with the Finance and Risk Management Departments to set and manage financial reserves and determine appropriate insurance coverages.
- Interact with and provide litigation updates to the Company's executive staff.
- Provide litigation perspective and input to the General Counsel in preparation for board meetings, executive briefings, SEC filings and other strategic initiatives.
- JD from an accredited law school and a member in good standing of a state bar.
- Eight (8) years of relevant litigation experience, ideally with a portion of that having been in-house.
- Prior experience managing insurance claim administration.
- Experience with any of the following is considered a plus:
- Developing, mentoring and training others.
- Leading resource optimization or efficiency initiatives.
- Working withing the environmental services industry or any other highly regulated service industry.
- Demonstrates expressive leadership, with the ability to take a lead role inside and outside of the Law Department and with outside counsel.
- Advocates aggressively on behalf of clients.
- Possesses a strong sense of ownership, accountability and initiative.
- Shows good judgment and ability to think critically.
- Offers advanced written and verbal communication skills.
- Embraces technology and data in litigation practice management.
- Thrives in a face-paced, multitask environment.
