For more than 118 years, Backus Hospital has been the primary source of healthcare services for much of Eastern Connecticut. We are home to the only trauma center in New London and Windham counties, and are the only area hospital with LIFE STAR helicopter services. We deliver and coordinate a continuum of high‑quality healthcare with the goal of improving the health of our communities.
The Pharmacy Department at Backus consists of Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacists who work together in a collaborative team environment meeting the needs of our patients.
ResponsibilitiesThe Administrative Assistant contributes to the overall success of the Pharmacy Department by providing multi‑dimensional complex administrative support to leadership in a manner requiring self‑direction, creativity, and independent and discretionary judgment. The Administrative Assistant will be responsible for performing a variety of administrative functions such as:
- Maintaining leaders’ calendars, including independently creating, rescheduling, and prioritizing appointments for both internal and external commitments, ensuring priorities are accomplished and unplanned items are addressed appropriately.
- Generating correspondence and preparing presentations and creating and manipulating Excel spreadsheets for data compilation.
- Responsible for handling confidential information and exercising appropriate judgment.
Education:
- High School Diploma;
Associates Degree preferred.
Experience:
- 2–5 years administrative support, preferably in a health care setting.
Knowledge, Skills And Ability Requirements:
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- High degree of confidentiality.
- Requirement to register (and train) as a pharmacy technician.
