General Description:
The FLE teacher provides students enrolled in the specialized school-based Adult Education ESOL Program with education, training, employability skills, and experiences based on the needs and interests of each student, while maintaining a high standard of academic achievement.
- Provide instruction and materials using Burlington English and supplementary materials to adult English learners, differentiated according to student needs
- Integrate technology using View boards, Google Classroom / Google Suite
- Integrate life, employability and digital skills into a delivered curriculum
- Provide students with ongoing evaluation of skills attempted and mastered
- Submit attendance and other required paperwork in a timely manner; follow up on students with poor attendance
- Utilize community agencies to provide support services for students
- Participate in ESOL teacher meetings and professional development workshops and activities
- Meet required standards and seek to improve teaching practices through Teacher Evaluation feedback
- Provide ESOL families with direct instruction in College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS) to enhance literacy, numeracy and technology proficiency in order to promote economic self-sufficiency and success
- Provide children of participating ESOL families with direct instruction using age-appropriate educational activities
- Teach participating ESOL families (parents) how to become an active partner with the public school system in the education of their children
- Provide scheduled, appropriate, interactive literacy activities for participating ESOL families
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Adult Education
- CT Certification - Non-English Speaking Adults (#088) or equivalent
- Must understand and adhere to standardized assessment protocols
- Ability to work with computer-based testing
- Bilingual or multilingual preferred (Creole, Spanish, French, Chinese)
Union-optional / Non-tenure track position; hourly rate commensurate with NTL contract
