Position Summary

All Teaching Faculty members shall:
Prepare and teach college‑approved courses in accordance with approved course descriptions and class schedules, including developing syllabi and reading lists and keeping each course taught complete and up to date; respond to and work with multiple constituencies, including students, peers (faculty and staff), and external agencies (business, community, educational, etc.); perform divisional departmental responsibilities in the selection of texts and related teaching resources;

and other teaching and related duties as outlined on the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Dean, Department Chair, or other administrator, the Assistant Professor is responsible for teaching thirty (30) credit hours per academic year and delivering a range of courses within the assigned discipline. Courses may be offered in lecture, hybrid, and/or online formats, and teaching schedules may include both day and evening classes.

  • Teaching courses within the assigned discipline area in accordance with institutional standards
  • Evaluating and assessing student learning outcomes
  • Providing student support, mentoring, and academic advising
  • Developing curriculum and periodically reviewing and updating instructional materials
  • Assisting with program reviews and accreditation‑related activities
  • Planning and executing program‑related events
  • Attending workshops, trainings, and/or professional conferences to maintain currency in the field
Additional Responsibilities
  • Attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies
  • Service on assigned committees and task forces
  • Attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational, and professional meetings, which may occur during evenings and weekends
Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in Nursing. Active R.N. licensure in Connecticut.

  • Four (4) years college teaching experience (96+ credits); OR
  • Two (2) years’ college teaching experience (48+ credits) with four (4) or more years (Fulltime Equivalency) of clinical nursing experience. (Medical surgical nursing, critical care, and/or acute rehabilitation nursing).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching in simulation/nursing skills lab and acute care setting
  • Experience in facilitating high‑fidelity simulation
  • Experience teaching Medical‑Surgical Nursing and/or Maternal‑Child Health Nursing
  • Experience teaching fundamental nursing or precepting new nursing graduates.
  • Experience with curriculum development, and program assessment and evaluation
  • Experience incorporating technology to enhance the learning environment, e.g., Blackboard, online instruction or other modalities/software
