The State of Connecticut, Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS) is recruiting an anticipated THS Special Education Instructor to join our team at Norwich Technical High School in Norwich, CT.
Position Highlights- Schedule:
first shift, full time (35 hours per week) Monday through Friday. - Location:
Norwich Technical High School - Salary: VS01-VS02, derived from the State Vocational Federation of Teachers.
- Academic Calendar: CTECS follows a ten‑month academic calendar (188 days per year).
A CTECS Special Education Instructor is responsible for the education of students with and without disabilities and the case management of students with disabilities. Responsibilities include employing a variety of teaching practices that reflect high learning expectations and current pedagogical methods; providing differentiated instructional strategies and assistive technology across all discipline areas; making accommodations and/or modifications to the curriculum and collaborating with content‑area teachers to ensure equity for all students;
fostering a gradual release of responsibility; encouraging student discourse and self‑advocacy; designing and assessing transition plans; engaging in parent and community outreach, consultation, and collaboration; creating a student‑centered classroom environment conducive to learning; administering a range of assessment batteries; and participating in professional learning.

Special Education Instructors must possess an active State of Connecticut teaching certificate in one of the following areas:
- 065 Comprehensive Special Education, PK–12 or 165 Comprehensive Special Education, PreK–12 or 265 Comprehensive Special Education, 1–12
- Or be eligible for a State of Connecticut teaching certificate in a subject area (includes ARC candidates)
Preferred Qualifications:
- 4 years experience in a high school setting (9-12 education)
- Trade career referral experience
- Professional experience related to special education
- Experience with varied assessments to inform instruction and promote learning
- Experience with fostering and facilitating learning, classroom management, and behavior intervention plans
- Experience delivering ideas and objectives through oral and written communication
- Experience utilizing computer software such as Microsoft Office and Google Products
Special Requirements:
Incumbents must possess at the time of appointment a valid certificate issued by the Connecticut State Board of Education in accordance with the Certification Regulations Concerning State Educator Certificates, Permits and Authorizations, with a secondary school endorsement.
