Position Summary

The Librarian/Program Leader performs a broad range of professional responsibilities of librarianship in the library or learning resource center of a CT State Community College campus, providing library services to students, faculty, and citizens of the communities served by the College. These professional responsibilities encompass a broad spectrum including: reference services; cataloging; inter-library loan management; collection development; program supervision; circulation management;

acquisitions; and teaching students and faculty in the use of library resources.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Library Director and faculty department chair or other administrator, the Librarian/Program Leader is accountable for providing useful and helpful support to the learning mission of the College through effective performance in these essential duties:

  • Technical Services
  • Instruction
  • Circulation Management
  • Staff Supervision
  • Program Leadership

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies
  • Service on assigned committees and task forces
  • Attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational and professional meetings which may occur during evenings and weekends

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in Library Science together with one (1) or more years of related experience including up to two years of experience in leading or supervising others.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • The full range of professional librarianship with strong competences in public services, reference, technical services, collection development, information technology and information literacy skills and instruction in effective use of library resources in a higher education environment;
  • Demonstrated program management skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and train support staff.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including individuals with disabilities
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Three (3) years experience working in an academic library setting
  • Experience supervising faculty or staff
  • Experience directing program accreditation or certification efforts
  • Experience using the integrated library system Alma/Primo from Ex Libris
  • Experience using a learning management system
