Position Summary

The Community College system makes higher education available to a broad range of constituents and strives to make academic programs as accessible and exciting as possible. Among the techniques used to accomplish that objective, the colleges use state of the art technology to enhance classroom instruction, web course management technology to enhance on-site courses and to deliver online courses and television and other multimedia technology and programming to present academic instruction.

The Director of Education Technology is the strategic person in the college, responsible for providing direct pedagogical expertise in course development and augmentation, including planning, assessment and implementation of distance and online learning, and partnering with faculty and academic staff in the exploration and use of instructional technologies to enhance the teaching and learning environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Academic Dean or Dean/Director of Information Technology, the Director of Education Technology is responsible for enhancing learning opportunities for the College’s publics, faculty and students through effective performance in these essential functional areas:

Key responsibilities include:

  • Planning, overseeing and implementing instructional technology in collaboration with the Director of Information Technology.
  • Develop and deliver programs for faculty and staff on the use of instructional technologies, including course management systems.
  • Administration.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies
  • Service on assigned committees and task forces
  • Attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational and professional meetings which may occur during evenings and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in Instructional Technology or other appropriately related field together with one (1) or more years of related experience; or a combination of education, training and experience which would lead to the competencies required for successful performance of the position’s essential duties.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Application of computers and internet to transmission of instruction, including
    information technology literacy skills;
  • Design of instructional courses for adaptation to internet or television transmission;
  • Methods of applying technology-based presentation in academic settings;
