Position Overview
A Chemical Operator III will have at least 4 years’ experience working in a chemical manufacturing environment. As a mid-level operator at Nalas, a Chemical Operator III will be part of a team responsible for the manufacturing of chemical products. Under minimal guidance, a Chemical Operator III will demonstrate the skills to safely operate and control chemical equipment specific to processes.

The Chemical Operator III is proficient in the safe handling and storage of bulk quantities of chemicals. A Chemical Operator III will repair plant equipment and effectively record operations. A Chemical Operator III will provide mentorship to entry-level operators. The Chemical Operator III will be responsible for maintaining a clean workspace. It is critical a Chemical Operator III understands aspects of project management, demonstrating an excellent understanding of timeline and budget.

A Chemical Operator III is expected to always operate in a safe and efficient manner, with a mindset and behavior that reinforces the Nalas Quality culture, ensuring Nalas services meet or exceed customer needs.

Position Requirements
Qualifications and skills

• High School Diploma or Equivalent (4+ years’ experience)

• Good knowledge of chemical operations necessary to perform manufacturing.

• Experienced in computer programs such as MS Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.

• Self-motivated.

• Good interpersonal, communication, organizational, teamwork and time management skills are essential.

Plant Proficiency

• Operate in a safe and efficient manner and follows Nalas SAF Procedures.

• Maintain a clean workplace.

• Experienced with working in a chemical manufacturing environment.

• Proficient in basic mechanics.

• Learn to participate and support writing of Nalas laboratory review forms (LRF's).

• Follow Nalas written procedures with minimal supervision.

• Proficient with equipment and chemical process setup.

• Contribute to the design and setup of new chemical processes.

• Proficient with plant controls.

• Weigh materials accurately under minimal supervision.

• Proficient in repairing equipment.

• Operate tools under minimal supervision.

• Provide guidance to entry-level operators.

Project Management

• Demonstrate good time management, organizational skills and teamwork.

• Demonstrate excellent understanding in Nalas assignments, timeline, and budget constraints.

• Identify and communicate variances in assignments vs actuals.

Quality

• Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the job including lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs, standing for long durations, climbing up stairs and ladders, reaching with upper extremities, bending, etc.

• HAZARDOUS DUTY:
Incumbent is regularly exposed to the hazard of chemical and explosive ingredients. The danger inherent in this type of work cannot be completely eliminated by established SOP's and/or safety equipment. Incumbent may be responsible for hazardous and universal waste collection, consolidation, segregation, and proper storage and labeling. Incumbent may be responsible for performing emergency response activities, emergency response clean-up, hazardous waste clean-up, and the handling of hazardous waste materials when training is provided.

• Must be willing and able to wear required personal protective equipment during chemical handling operations. This includes, but is not limited to, Hazmat suits, goggles, safety glasses, breathing air hoods, boots, gloves, etc.

  • Chemical Manufacturing Operations:
    Expertise in safely operating, controlling, and setting up chemical processing equipment.
  • Bulk Chemical Handling:
    Proficiency in the safe handling, storage, segregation, and labeling of large quantities of chemical materials.
  • Hazardous Waste Management:
    Ability to collect, consolidate, and clean up hazardous and universal waste materials
Safety & Emergency Response
  • PPE & Respirator Compliance:
    Experienced in using specialized protective equipment, including Hazmat suits, goggles, and breathing air hoods.
  • Emergency Response Clean-up:
    Trained to perform emergency response activities and clean up chemical or explosive ingredients.
Mechanical & Plant Operations
  • Equipment Maintenance & Repair:
    Proficient in basic mechanics and performing repairs on plant equipment.
  • Plant Controls Operation:
    Skilled in monitoring and adjusting plant controls and operating mechanical tools.
Professional & Project Skills
  • Project Management Support:
    Strong understanding of working within strict timeline and budget constraints.
  • Technical Documentation:
    Competent in utilizing MS Office programs and writing laboratory review forms (LRFs).
  • Mentorship & Leadership:
    Ability to provide direct operational guidance and mentorship to entry-level operators.
