The OpportunityA prominent, privately held public accounting firm in Norwood, Massachusetts, is seeking an experienced Tax Manager or Senior Tax Manager to join its team.
This position has been created as two longtime partners transition into retirement. Both will remain involved in a limited capacity over the next one to two years, providing the incoming professional with a thoughtful transition period and the opportunity to build relationships with an established client base.
The firm’s practice is primarily focused on tax preparation and planning. It needs an experienced CPA who can prepare, review, and sign returns while providing responsive, hands‑on service to clients. This is a highly client‑facing position, and professionals at every level, not only partners, communicate directly with clients.
Responsibilities- Prepare, review, and sign complex federal and state tax returns
- Manage tax engagements from initial planning through filing
- Provide year‑round tax‑planning and advisory services
- Serve as a primary point of contact for individual and business clients
- Develop a thorough understanding of each client’s business and financial needs
- Communicate complex tax matters clearly to clients
- Research federal and state tax issues and recommend practical solutions
- Review work completed by other team members and provide guidance when needed
- Manage multiple engagements while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines
- Assist with occasional bookkeeping, compilations, and reviews
- Help transition and service client relationships currently managed by retiring partners
The firm serves a diverse portfolio of individuals and privately held businesses.
Business clients operate across a variety of industries and are primarily small businesses. Many generate approximately $1 million to $10 million in annual gross receipts, while several generate approximately $25 million.
The individual tax practice is equally varied, ranging from complex returns for high-net-worth individuals to less complicated personal returns.
Qualifications- Active CPA license
- At least 6 years of public accounting experience; candidates with 10 or more years are strongly encouraged to apply
- Experience working within a small or midsize public accounting firm
- Massachusetts or broader New England public accounting experience is preferred
- Demonstrated experience preparing and reviewing individual and business tax returns
- Experience signing tax returns or the technical ability and readiness to assume signing responsibility
- Strong knowledge of federal and state taxation
- Experience with high-net-worth individuals and closely held businesses
- Confident, professional client‑facing communication skills
- Ability to manage engagements and work independently
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Experience with bookkeeping, compilations, or reviews is helpful but not required
- Hybrid schedule with two days per week in the Canton office
- Busy‑season hours capped at approximately 55 hours per week
- Base salary of up to $175,000
- Additional compensation flexibility may be available for an exceptional candidate
