Larin Automotive – Norwood, Massachusetts

Full-time | Monday–Friday | Initial 8:00 a.m. start

Larin Automotive is looking for a detail-oriented Automotive Inspection Technician whose primary responsibility will be performing complete digital multipoint inspections on customer vehicles.

This is not a traditional repair-technician position. Your main job will be to thoroughly inspect vehicles, document their condition, and give our service advisors the clear information they need to explain findings and prepare accurate estimates.

This position is ideal for an experienced lube technician, entry-level automotive technician, state inspector, or general-service technician who has strong inspection skills, takes pride in being thorough, and communicates clearly.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform complete digital multipoint inspections using a tablet-based inspection system.
  • Road-test vehicles and document relevant observations.
  • Photograph vehicle condition, warning lights, fluid leaks, damage, and other findings.
  • Measure and document brake-pad thickness, tire tread depth, tire condition, and other wear items.
  • Inspect lighting, fluids, filters, belts, hoses, suspension, steering, brakes, exhaust, underbody components, and other vehicle systems.
  • Raise vehicles on a dedicated lift and safely remove and reinstall underbody shields when necessary.
  • Clearly classify inspection findings according to company standards.
  • Write complete notes that tell the service advisor:
    • What was found.
    • Where it was found.
    • How severe it is.
    • What repair or maintenance should be recommended.
    • Whether additional inspection or diagnosis is required.
  • Ask a repair technician for a second opinion when a condition is unclear.
  • Communicate immediately when a safety concern or significant problem is identified.
  • Help keep inspections moving according to the dispatcher’s priorities.
  • Depending on experience, possibly perform oil changes, tire service, bulbs, filters, wipers, and other minor maintenance.
The Inspection Technician will identify and document conditions but will not be responsible for diagnosing complex problems or completing major repairs. Diagnostic and repair work will be assigned to the appropriate repair technician.

What Success Looks Like

  • Inspections are complete, accurate, consistent, and delivered on time.
  • Pictures and written findings are clear enough for an advisor to prepare an estimate without repeatedly tracking down the inspector.
  • Safety concerns and important maintenance needs are not missed.
  • Inspection standards are applied consistently from one vehicle to the next.
  • Vehicles are treated carefully and returned clean.
  • The inspector follows the dispatcher’s priorities and communicates early about delays.
  • Inspection efficiency improves with training without sacrificing thoroughness.
Qualifications

  • Automotive inspection, maintenance, lube-technician, or general-service experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of common automotive systems and maintenance items.
  • Ability to safely road-test vehicles and operate an automotive lift.
  • Ability to recognize worn, damaged, leaking, loose, or unsafe components.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable using a tablet or mobile inspection application.
  • Able to work independently while also asking for assistance when necessary.
  • Dependable, organized, and able to follow a prioritized schedule.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds.
  • Basic automotive hand tools preferred.
  • European-vehicle experience is helpful but not required.
Schedule

The initial schedule will begin at 8:00 a.m. while the employee is being trained and learning our inspection standards and workflow.

Once fully trained and able to work independently, the schedule may shift to a 6:00 or 7:00 a.m. start so inspections can be completed before the main repair schedule begins. Applicants should be open to…
