Senior Research Engineer

FM is seeking a Senior Research Engineer to lead advanced R&D on lithium-ion battery and data center safety. You will investigate battery failure modes, thermal runaway, and cascading effects in large-scale deployments, designing experiments and simulations that drive safer architectures. Partnering with cross-functional teams, you'll build predictive models, risk assessments, and mitigation strategies, while aligning designs with UL, IEC, and NFPA standards.

This role suits a hands-on researcher who can turn complex data into actionable safety guidelines and mentor junior engineers in a hybrid work environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead research on lithium-ion battery safety, failure modes, and thermal runaway in data center applications.
• Design and analyze experiments, simulations, and test protocols for battery and data center safety systems.
• Develop predictive models and risk assessments for large-scale battery deployments and critical infrastructure.
• Translate research outcomes into design guidelines, safety requirements, and engineering standards.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on system architecture, monitoring, and emergency response strategies.
• Author technical reports, presentations, and publications to communicate findings to stakeholders.
• Support compliance with relevant UL, IEC, NFPA, and regional safety codes and standards.
• Guide junior engineers and researchers in experimental methods and data analysis.
