Senior Research Engineer

FM is seeking a Senior Research Engineer to advance lithium-ion battery and data center safety. You will design experiments, develop models, and analyze data to understand thermal runaway, fire, and reliability risks in large-scale energy and compute environments. Partnering with cross-functional teams, you'll translate research into standards, design guidance, and mitigation strategies for critical infrastructure. Responsibilities include test planning, data analysis, safety case support, and mentoring junior engineers in a hybrid work setting with competitive pay and benefits.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute experiments on lithium-ion battery and data center safety risks.
• Develop models to predict thermal runaway, fire propagation, and failure modes.
• Analyze large test datasets to quantify risk and validate safety models.
• Collaborate with data center, facilities, and product teams on mitigation strategies.
• Author technical reports, standards inputs, and safety guidelines.
• Support safety case development, compliance, and certification activities.
• Mentor junior engineers and coordinate work with external labs and partners.
• Monitor emerging codes, standards, and research in battery and data center safety.
