A qualified electrician is required at HMP Nottingham to work in a busy maintenance team.
We are recruiting an experienced Electrician to work at HMP Nottingham on an ongoing temporary basis for several months. This long‑term temporary contract offers full‑time hours, overtime, and the possibility of a permanent role for the right candidate.
Responsibilities- Complete a range of structured SFG
20‑based PPM tasks (daily, weekly, monthly, and annual) including fault‑finding and reactive work to meet statutory and mandatory compliance. - Complete service sheets and paperwork for PPM and reactive electrical tasks with work details, findings and electrical test results as required.
- Carry out like‑for‑like replacements and other minor electrical work, performing the relevant inspections, tests and recording results in accordance with BS7671.
- Assist the responsible person and authorised person when requested, ensuring that all electrical systems are safe, compliant and functioning effectively.
- Diagnose and replace failed electrical components, actively fault‑finding and problem‑solving on electrical systems across the prison.
- Assist with escorting duties and other duties as required.
- Follow MOJ Security protocols, including tool management.
- City & Guilds 2367 or 2357 Level 2 Electrical Installation works, or equivalent BS7671 18th Edition (17th Edition considered with upskilling).
- Successful completion of MOJ Prison Clearance (valid for five years and transferable to similar category prisons).
- Honesty, hard‑working, reliable, trustworthy and strong attention to detail.
- Excellent teamwork skills, strong communication, basic IT competence, and excellent organisational and time‑management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines, independently and with initiative.
- Ability to work at heights.
- Knowledge of planned and preventive maintenance operations.
- Health and Safety knowledge, including Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work.
- Understanding of fire alarm and CCTV systems.
- Weekend rota (approximately 1 in 3 or
4) and on‑call rota participation may be required.
