Position: Air Quality Modeler - FLEXIBLE US LOCATION

Air Quality Modeler

Novato, CA, or flexible location in the USA.

Ramboll is seeking an experienced Air Quality Modeler to join the firm. This position is located in Novato, California in the San Francisco Bay Area, but we are considering candidates working outside California as well. We develop the state‑of‑the‑science Comprehensive Air Quality Model with extensions (CAMx) that is widely used around the world. The office also has deep expertise in preparing emission inventories and applying a variety of emission, meteorological, and air quality models.

As our new Air Quality Modeler, you will be part of the Air Sciences Group under Ramboll's Environment & Health Division. This group consults with clients across various governments and industries on air quality modeling, emissions estimation, environmental and human health risk assessment, climate change, climate adaptation and resiliency, sustainability initiatives, permitting, and compliance.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct scientific investigations using advanced air quality and meteorological models and interpret modeling results.
  • Perform statistical and geospatial analyses of emissions and air quality data.
  • Develop new air quality modeling and analysis tools.
  • Prepare reports and communicate results to clients.
  • Publish and present findings to peers and stakeholders.
  • Actively participate in a growing network of Ramboll sustainability practitioners that span our services across environment, health, energy, and water.
Qualifications
  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in a discipline relevant to air quality and/or meteorological modeling such as atmospheric science, engineering, meteorology, chemistry or physics.
  • At least 2 years of air quality or related experience (graduate student work can count toward this requirement).
  • Proven experience with air quality/meteorological models such as CAMx, CMAQ, GEOS‑Chem, and WRF, or climate models.
  • Computer programming experience, such as scientific programming and database programming.
  • Strong computing skills including high level use of spreadsheets and word processing.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication, problem‑solving and organization skills.
  • Experience with the SMOKE emission processor is an advantage.
