Automotive Manufacturing Buyer

Job Description

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Senior Buyer will select, develop, and manage the supply base for materials, parts, components and systems by collaborating with Sales, Engineering & Program. This role requires the ability to analyze and negotiate quotations and agreements, maintain competitive pricing, summarize data, and make recommendations for new suppliers based on total cost, capabilities and performance. The Senior Buyer will prepare RFQs for new business and multi-year production requirements, support the commercial development and launch of new and existing programs (including APQP, supplier selection process, BOM administration, etc.).

The Senior Buyer must identify and drive cost savings opportunities and events while also supporting new assigned tasks as required.

• Support supply chain performance key metrics tracking. Including APQP, gate workbook administration, support program launch reviews and associated metrics.
• High degree of knowledge in the following:
  Plastic injection and blow molding for application to interior and exterior automotive parts. Paint and coatings used for exterior and interior parts. Chemicals and raw materials used in the plastics and foam industry. Maintain knowledge of all market conditions that may affect the company and advise the Management of trends and the potential impacts on the company. Explore available technology and implement best practices related to purchasing activities.
  
  Formulate and implement commodity and supply base strategies. Possess strong analytical ability with demonstrated ability to collect and analyze product and material demands to develop product commodity sourcing packages and reports. Exercise competitive tension to secure best possible product costs, delivery terms, etc. Prepare and deliver effective product costing support that enhances the overall financial position of the Company. Support minority / diversity business strategy or develop a strategy in conjunction with each division’s requirements for their customer base and internal metrics.
  
  Support yearly cost reduction activities:
  Track and report all annual cost downs per contract terms. Establish, maintain, drive the implementation of, summarize and report existing and potential production supplier cost down activities. Manage assigned production suppliers or commodities including:
  Supplier process optimization. Prelaunch production supplier deliverables (Production Trials, Capacity, Quality and Packaging deliverables).
• Support the plants with inventory optimization to meet budgeted targets.
• Support in the management of packaging needs including inbound, outbound and company internal.
• Provide support to other operational areas, including but not limited to:
  Production Control, Quality, Engineering, and others as required regarding purchasing and supplier related issues.
