Position: Interior Designer/ Design Consultant

Role Description

The Interior Designer/Design Consultant is a full‑time, on‑site role based in Novi, MI. This role involves meeting with clients in the showroom and their homes to understand their lifestyle, functional needs, and aesthetic preferences, and translating these into cohesive design concepts. Daily responsibilities include space planning, developing design proposals, selecting furnishings and finishes, preparing presentations and basic drawings, and guiding clients through product choices and customization options.

The designer/consultant will collaborate with the Gorman’s team and independent designers, coordinate with vendors on orders, and ensure projects are executed accurately and on schedule. The role also includes maintaining visually appealing showroom displays, staying current with design trends, and contributing to a professional and welcoming client experience.

Qualifications
  • Strong interior design skills, including Interior Design and FF&E (furniture, fixtures, and equipment) selection.
  • Proficiency in Space Planning to create functional, aesthetically pleasing layouts aligned with client needs.
  • Understanding of Architecture and Construction Drawings to communicate design intent and coordinate with trade professionals.
  • Experience in residential design consulting, including client-facing work in a showroom or similar environment.
  • Proficiency with design tools/software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, Sketch Up, or similar) and basic presentation tools.
  • Strong visual, conceptual, and color sense, with the ability to create cohesive design schemes.
  • Excellent communication, listening, and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative approach to teamwork.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and follow through on details from concept to completion.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Availability to work full-time onsite in Novi, MI, including some evenings or weekends based on client and showroom needs.
