* WSP is currently initiating a search for an
** Environmental Geologist
** for our
** Novi, MI
** office. This candidate will be involved in projects across our Earth & Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization with exciting and impactful projects helping our clients meet their site investigation and remediation goals.
Provides technical assistance and guidance for due diligence, subsurface investigation, and remediation projects. Will serve in a field lead and task management role. Tasks may include planning and leading field investigations, collecting environmental samples from various media (soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, air/vapor), conducting site exploration and geologic logging using a variety of drilling techniques, leading environmental construction oversight activities. Generates accurate and concise reports and documentation.
Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards.
** Your Impact*
* + Serve as field lead, responsible for planning, managing and executing field programs in compliance with work plans.
+ Collect, extract, identify, and compile environmental data from soil sampling, soil gas sampling, groundwater sampling, stormwater sampling, boring logs, and other matrices for projects, investigations, and surveys.
+ Coordinate site investigations including subsurface boring and trenching oversight activities, groundwater monitoring well installation etc.
+ Maintain and calibrate equipment and tools, troubleshooting and reporting on malfunctions, and performing inventory control activities.
+ Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, analysis, and reporting
+ Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems and field/work site notebook.
+ Conduct environmental site assessments (Phase I and II).
+ Prepare data and visualizations such as mineral charts, soil analyses, groundwater modeling, maps geologic cross-sections, and other illustrations.
+ Support development and scoping of future projects.
+ Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but is not limited to, the maintenance of sample collection, trench and boring, laboratory documentation, written procedures, monitoring systems, and logbooks.
+ Contribute to the preparation of technical reports and presentations that explain research and findings to prevent, control, restore, or clean-up chemical and environmental problems and contamination.
+ Assist in the analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of geologic, hydrogeologic, and chemical data obtained during field investigations, offering input with developing action plans for low to mid-level threat mitigation activities.
+ Work with cross-functional teams in executing project work.
+ Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
+ Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
** Who You Are*
* ** Required Qualifications*
* + Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, or closely related discipline.
+ 3-5 years of experience working as a Geologist or similar role.
+ Knowledge of geological research techniques and protocols.
+ Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.
+ Experience sampling soil and groundwater via drilling including direct-push, hollow-stem auger, and other similar drilling methods.
+
Experience with evaluation of vapor intrusion and sampling soil gas.
+ Experience installing groundwater monitoring wells, remediation wells, and soil gas wells.
+ Experience writing groundwater monitoring reports and well installation reports.
+ Knowledge with the concepts of reducing and eliminating the use or generation of hazardous substances, processes, or products, and mitigation programs.
+ Knowledge of relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
