Restraints Engineer for Interior Systems
Novi, MI (Onsite with supplier and plant travel as required)
Job SummarySeeking an experienced Restraints Engineer to support interior restraint systems engineering activities across the full vehicle development lifecycle. The role will involve on-site engineering support, supplier coordination, DV/PV testing, issue resolution, and build support for restraint system components.
Key Responsibilities- Provide engineering support for interior restraint systems, including:
- Passenger airbags
- Curtain airbags
- Seatbelts
- Work cross-functionally with internal engineering teams to meet design, safety, and manufacturing requirements.
- Collaborate with suppliers to:
- Ensure correct and timely data uploads into OEM systems.
- Support part updates and engineering changes.
- Align tooling timing with program milestones.
- Lead and support DV/PV testing activities for restraint systems.
- Drive fast and effective issue resolution through all build phases.
- Obtain and manage B‑Release approvals for restraint system components.
- Support supplier builds, on-site vehicle builds, and pre‑production and production launch activities.
- Modify components based on engineering, safety, and design inputs.
- Ensure quality compliance using DFMEA, PFMEA, and control plans.
- Travel to supplier locations and manufacturing sites as required.
- 8+ years of experience in interior restraint systems engineering.
- Proven experience supporting restraint systems through all development phases.
- Strong working knowledge of restraint system requirements and safety standards.
- Hands‑on experience with DV/PV testing for restraint systems.
- Proficiency in CATIA, including pulling data, cutting, and analyzing sections.
- Strong understanding of automotive quality processes.
- Ability to quickly resolve complex engineering issues.
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
- Ability to work on‑site and take direction from lead engineering teams.
- Prior experience working within legacy OEM engineering systems.
- Familiarity with global OEM product development processes.
