Job Title
Sr. Product Design Engineer
Key Accountabilities- Create detailed design drawings, fully parametric models, standards and specifications for diesel engine components and subsystems.
- Organize, manage and execute integration and interface projects for military applications.
- Establish and maintain an engine master model (EMM) and perform package studies, updates, virtual builds, compatibility checks, and use background data when making decisions.
- Responsible for front‑line design work, maintaining a high level of accuracy, completeness, geometric dimension and tolerancing (GD&T), and compliance with standard procedures and design manufacturing requirements.
- Interpret and apply GD&T to drawings and advise others on GD&T, its application and use.
- Responsible for designs and efficient completion of deliverables (models, layouts and prints).
- Comprehend, analyze and adhere to comprehensive data creation standards (DCS) for modeling.
- Perform and instruct others on tolerance stack‑ups and optimal design features.
- Establish and maintain design standards and records by preparing design team manuals and documenting standard procedures.
- Lead, conduct and coordinate effective design review meetings.
- Coordinate and consult with design community and internal/external departments.
- Investigate and analyze design or system problems and define a plan to meet objectives.
- Perform engine concept layouts and/or create initial geometric models from 3D scanning and reverse engineering practices.
- Keep management abreast of project status and pending problems, recommend solutions, and produce project status reports.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Represent the company effectively to suppliers and customers by giving presentations on very complex issues.
- Perform special projects.
- Authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. without sponsorship.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Design and 5 years of experience in CAD, design or drafting; or 9 years of experience; or equivalent experience combined with design/drafting certifications.
- Excellent knowledge of design techniques, tools and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings and models.
- Excellent knowledge of GD&T and ability to interpret its effect on component design and check team drawings for integrity and accuracy.
- Excellent knowledge of materials properties, elastomers, gaskets, sealing’s, fixturings, machining, casting, forging, injection molding, stamping or tube forming processes as they relate to diesel engine design and development.
- Strong knowledge of engine architecture, components and their primary functions, engine cycles, injection equipment and boosting systems.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving ability for complex issues.
- Strong ability to work independently, with little direction, and effectively with others.
- Strong organizational, planning and follow‑up skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Proficient with PC and MS Office Suite.
- Strong background with military applications/requirements design.
- Strong knowledge of Creo (ProE).
- Knowledge of manufacturing and assembly processes.
- Knowledge of Windchill and Team Center Engineering (TCe) or other Product Data Management (PDM) systems.
- Knowledge of MTU products, Detroit Diesel 2‑Stroke products, military land vehicle applications a plus.
