Job Description – Mechanical (HVAC) Staff Engineer – Entry Level

Sidock Group, Inc. has employment opportunities for a Mechanical Staff Engineer in our Novi, MI office. Ideal candidates will have a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and 0-2 years of proven experience in HVAC design.
Responsibilities- The Mechanical Staff Engineer will work under the supervision and support of the HVAC Engineer Project Leader at the Novi office.
- Technical site engineering for commercial, industrial, governmental, and aviation projects.
- Prepare drawing packages for all stages of projects, from initial concept, studies, site plan, and client approval through permitting, bidding, and construction.
- Perform HVAC load calculations and hydronic and air distribution system sizing calculations.
- Select equipment compatible with the existing building systems and project needs.
- Review client, local, state, and national code requirements to develop site layouts and meet special requirements.
- Review and incorporate client-specific design standards into projects.
- Review equipment vendor documentation to determine installation and integration requirements.
- Develop design documents for equipment layout, ventilation, piping, and plumbing.
- Work closely with designers, engineers, and project managers to coordinate mechanical design with other disciplines, both within the firm and with partnering consultants, to meet project deliverables.
- Prepare project and equipment specification documents.
- Review RFIs, contractor submittals, and shop drawings.
- Interface with clients as part of the team.
- Conduct site visits for field measurements and inspections.
- Prepare technical reports, project cost estimates, and engineering studies.
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering (or relevant engineering field).
- HVAC design software experience (load design tools, piping sizing tools, duct sizing tools).
- Attention to detail and ability to work on multiple projects concurrently.
- Ability to work in a team-based environment and individually.
- Proficient in Adobe (or Bluebeam) and Microsoft Office programs.
- Already passed the FE exam or is registered to take it within 2 months of application submission.
- On track for Professional Engineer registration.
Salary is $55k-$75k/yr depending on responsibilities and experience.
