Summary
The Application Engineer supports the sales team and customers by providing technical support and resolving technical issues to maximize design win success. Responsibilities include product evaluation, support, market feedback, communication with product divisions for design improvements, and participation in internal engineering meetings. The engineer also implements and analyses technical products and systems.
Responsibilities- Business Development – Identify and penetrate new accounts in target markets in conjunction with Account Managers; qualify opportunities and secure new business.
- Customer Visits – Conduct regular visits independently or with Account Managers; lead interactive engineering discussions to identify needs and provide solutions.
- Customer Engagement – Establish and maintain strong relationships with customers; act as a trusted technical advisor to support long‑term business growth.
- Design Recommendations – Understand customer applications, define technical requirements, identify suitable Minebea Mitsumi technologies, and review tradeoffs to propose the best solution.
- Product Development – Lead development of custom product solutions and coordinate technical activities between customer engineering and international Minebea Mitsumi engineering groups; track schedules, ensure approval, and transition into production.
- Product Documentation – Issue product documentation (technical drawings, specifications, datasheets, catalogs) as required.
- Sample Evaluation – Manage sample development and evaluation cycle; deliver samples on time and collect customer results.
- Design Failure Analysis – Conduct failure analysis investigations of customer products and report findings.
- Reporting – Provide timely written and verbal reports on customer interactions, development status, and opportunities; include monthly summary activity reports.
- Technical Research – Gather information on customer technical roadmaps and industry trends, consolidate and analyze, and report recommendations to product management.
- Travel – Up to 25–50 % domestic or international travel.
- Other – Perform duties related to the job function as required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field (Mechanical, Electrical). Master’s Degree a plus.
- Minimum 3 years experience as a design or application engineer; 3 years in relevant industry or with specified products.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and basic 3D modeling (CATIA, NX) preferred;
AutoCAD or ProE a plus. - Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Working knowledge of ISO/TS 16949, DFMEA, APQP, and AIAG core tools.
- Ability to maintain close working relationships with overseas engineers; strong problem‑solving skills.
- Business‑level speaking and reading/writing in Japanese or Spanish a plus.
No supervisory qualifications are required for this position.
Physical RequirementsNormal amount of sitting and standing, average mobility to move around an office, and ability to work at a computer.
SalaryPay band: $78,178–$117,267 annually, based on skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
