Sr. Mechanical Design & QA Engineer Job Novi area,Michigan USA,Engineering

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Checker to review and validate 2D mechanical engineering drawings before they are released for manufacturing. In addition to drawing review, you will collaborate with a software development team to help improve AI-powered drawing validation tools by providing engineering expertise, testing, and documentation.

This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in industrial machine design who enjoys combining engineering knowledge with emerging AI technology.

Key Responsibilities

Review and redline approximately 40–50 mechanical drawings per week for:
Accuracy
GD&T compliance
Drafting standards
Ensure drawings meet applicable engineering and manufacturing standards.
Work closely with software developers to improve AI-based drawing checking tools.
Create and validate engineering datasets used to train and test AI models.
Develop and document engineering rules and dimensioning rationale.
Validate AI-generated results using professional engineering judgment.

Requirements

Extensive experience creating and checking 2D mechanical drawings.
Strong practical knowledge of GD&T, including formal training or certification.
Experience applying drafting standards such as:
ANSI/ASME Y14.5
ISO standards
Other industry drafting standards
Proficiency with both imperial and metric drawings.
Strong experience with AutoCAD 2D

Experience with at least one 3D CAD platform such as Autodesk Inventor
, Solid Works
, or Mechanical Desktop
.
Strong understanding of dimensioning methods including baseline, chain, ordinate, mixed-mode, and tabular dimensioning.
Experience reviewing manufacturability of:
Machined parts
Sheet metal
Weldments
Castings
Forgings
Background designing or documenting industrial machinery with moving mechanical systems
.

Custom or special-purpose machinery
Material handling and conveyor systems
Machine tools and CNC equipment
Robotics and end-of-arm tooling
Aerospace tooling
Pneumatic and hydraulic equipment

Preferred Skills

Experience collaborating with software development teams.
Understanding of AI-assisted engineering workflows.
Experience with CAD automation, scripting, or macros (such as AutoLISP).
Ability to clearly explain engineering decisions and technical reasoning.
