Description
The Mechanical Integrity Engineer supports the Design function by undertaking analysis of proposed designs to ensure that they are robust and meet requirements. The Mechanical Integrity Engineer also makes recommendations to optimise the design and applies Robust Engineering (Design for Process Excellence) principles.
Key Accountabilities
- Conduct Aeros/Thermal, Acoustic and Structural Mechanical Design and Analysis. This includes selection and generation, as well as involvement in further development of numerical models; use of numerical calculation methods; development of interdisciplinary agreed boundary conditions and implementation into own models as well as models of other disciplines (e.g., performance); plausibility checks of boundary conditions; execution and analysis of numerical model calculations;
understanding calculations; and deriving suggestions for improvements. - Conduct Aeros/Thermal, Acoustic and Structural Mechanical experiments. This includes preparation of experiment specifications for tests on test rigs and engines, supervision and support of experiments, plausibility checks of results during test execution, analysis and interpretation of test results, and comparison with analytical and/or empirical models.
- Resolve problems through evaluative judgements. Analyze factual information from multiple sources, interpret results and identify effective solutions by applying technical knowledge, expertise and engineering judgement.
- Be responsible for defined technical packages/investigations of work, providing delivery against programme milestones within agreed cost, timescale and quality requirements.
- Act as a point of contact within a given engineering discipline and share subject matter knowledge across the function. This may include providing advisory services to designated customers, influencing the peer group, representing senior departmental staff and acting as an advisor/coach on matters where technically authoritative.
- Understand company business and function objectives and ensure that work supports these objectives. Always act in accordance with company values and those associated with being a professional engineer.
- Actively promote, encourage and support the identification and implementation of continuous improvements to tools, processes and methods both within and outside the immediate sphere, and prompt action across the wider team.
- Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Engineering or regional equivalent qualification, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5+ years of relevant engineering experience.
- Strong technical knowledge in mechanical design methodologies and an understanding of cross-discipline engineering concepts, including manufacturing engineering, aerodynamics, thermodynamics, thermal and mechanical analysis, cost engineering and product definition.
- Strong experience with Ansys, Workbench and Mechanical APDL. Candidates should be able to hit the ground running.
- Aerospace experience preferred.
- Nuclear Specific:
Strong technical knowledge in mechanical design methodologies and an understanding of and ability to integrate cross-discipline engineering concepts including manufacturing engineering, hydrodynamics, thermodynamics, static and dynamic stress analysis, fracture and fatigue assessment, cost engineering, and Installation & Commission. - Nuclear Specific:
