We are seeking a skilled Machine Builder Technician to support the assembly, installation, and commissioning of custom automated equipment used in world-class seat testing and calibration systems. This hands‑on role is responsible for building complex automation equipment from engineering drawings, supporting machine installations, and collaborating with engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure successful machine performance and customer satisfaction.

The ideal candidate has a strong mechanical background, experience assembling custom automation equipment, and the ability to troubleshoot and install machinery in both manufacturing and customer environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assemble custom automated machinery and equipment using 2D mechanical drawings, 3D CAD models, and engineering documentation.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, assembly instructions, and concept layouts to accurately build complex automation systems.
  • Collaborate with Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Program Management, and Manufacturing teams throughout machine builds.
  • Disassemble, transport, install, and reassemble equipment at customer manufacturing facilities.
  • Support machine runoffs, testing, startup, and customer acceptance activities.
  • Perform precision mechanical assembly while maintaining high standards for quality, workmanship, and appearance.
  • Operate machine shop equipment including lathes, mills, grinders, and welding equipment as needed for fabrication and modifications.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical assembly issues and recommend practical solutions.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Meet project schedules while maintaining quality and safety standards.
  • Travel to customer facilities throughout North America to support equipment installation and commissioning.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical or vocational training in Manufacturing, Automation, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in machine building, industrial automation, maintenance, or a related manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience assembling custom automation equipment, machinery, or tooling systems.
  • Experience installing and commissioning automated equipment in manufacturing facilities is preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to assemble complex automated machinery.
  • Ability to read and interpret 2D mechanical drawings, 3D CAD models, and engineering documentation.
  • Experience laying out and assembling equipment from drawings, photographs, and engineering concepts.
  • Basic welding and machining skills.
  • Knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems; familiarity with industrial controls is preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with a customer-focused mindset.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing effectively within a team environment.
  • Commitment to workplace safety, quality standards, and continuous improvement.
  • Willingness to work overtime as project schedules require.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% throughout North America.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience building custom automated assembly equipment.
  • Familiarity with automotive manufacturing or automated production systems.
  • Experience supporting machine runoffs, factory acceptance testing (FAT), and customer installations.
  • Knowledge of industrial automation systems, mechanical fabrication, and equipment commissioning.
