Job Description

Join a dynamic General Surgery team where you'll make a direct impact on patient outcomes while developing advanced surgical skills in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

  • Conduct daily rounds on pre- and post-operative patients, documenting progress notes and managing clinical orders
  • Perform surgical first assisting during scheduled OR cases and emergent overnight/weekend procedures
  • Evaluate and manage ED and inpatient surgical consults with independent clinical judgment
  • Execute bedside procedures including incision and drainage, wound debridement, chest tube placement, central line placement, Foley catheter placement, and wound VAC management
  • Collaborate effectively with attending surgeons and resident physicians to optimize patient care and surgical outcomes
  • Provide rotating at-home call coverage (approximately 4-5 times per month) for emergent OR cases with a 1-hour response time
  • Maintain weekend on-call availability (approximately 1 day per month, scheduled in advance) for surgical support
  • Support a diverse patient population including adult patients and select pediatric cases (age 14 and up) across multiple surgical specialties: general, HPB, colorectal, vascular, thoracic, breast, and select plastic surgery
Qualifications

** Required Qualifications**

  • PA graduate from an ARC-PA accredited program OR NP graduate from a CCNE/NLNAC accredited program
  • Current Michigan licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
  • National certification (NCCPA for PA; ANCC or AANP for NP)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification (may be obtained after hire)
  • Minimum 1 year of prior surgical first assist experience
  • DEA registration and Michigan Controlled Substance License (PA only); DEA registration (NP only)

** Preferred Qualifications**

  • 2+ years of surgical first assist experience with demonstrated competency in bedside procedures (incision and drainage, wound debridement, chest tube placement, central line placement, Foley catheter placement, wound VAC management)
  • 2+ years of acute care experience in a hospital setting
