The Field Technician will act as a Subject Matter Expert in the support of the maintenance responsibilities for the company s Baggage Handling, Passenger Boarding Bridge, Security Screening Systems and Ground Service Equipment contracts at multiple airport locations across the country. The role is instrumental in the delivery of technical services to meet the needs of temporary outstation projects and within our permanent contract projects.
The key goal of this role is to advance the company s technical resources by providing hands-on technical services where needed and to increase our field s technical abilities. The position will perform quality technical services, identify corrective actions and suggest improvements to policy and procedure. The role coordinates with the Director of Technical Services and Regional Managers to schedule support, helps new employees acclimate to equipment, and provides hands-on training to multiple technical positions.
Strong understanding of maintenance and operation of BHS, PBB, ASL and GSE is required, including preventative maintenance, causes of operational problems, deficiency inspections and reporting, PLCs, VFDs and all other electrical systems.
Essential Functions
- Excellent knowledge in Baggage Handling maintenance, PBB maintenance, GSE maintenance, situational leadership, and technical aptitude.
- Heavily developed electrical and mechanical skills specializing in PLC, IO, specialized sensors, advanced mechanical systems, hydraulics, controlled drive systems and control systems as a whole.
- Proven ability to perform various electrical and mechanical work, ranging from refurbishment, upgrade projects and electrical modernization projects.
- Ability to conduct oneself professionally with colleagues, customers and the public.
- Ability to work on unfamiliar equipment and become a subject matter expert quickly.
- Lead the frontline in new sites, new customers or new technology.
- Excellent management and team leadership skills.
- Take personal responsibility to complete all technical field assignments safely and efficiently.
- Advance the skillset that supports technical staff development and maintenance needs of contracted programs.
- Provide hands-on training at operations as required, specific to equipment types and local needs.
- Support Operations team by working in a safe, customer-focused manner.
- Must be self-motivated and customer-centric.
- Coordinate with third parties to transfer technical skills, knowledge and documentation while maintaining relationships.
- Proactive problem solving when no other resources are available.
- Learn, teach and support software platforms (CMMS) used to document and track work history.
- Document all work using software platforms, including labor and parts.
- Assess risk at individual programs and recommend programs to protect operations by building information packages for new employees.
- Handle multiple projects and daily activities, manage deadlines, and develop plans to meet departmental goals.
- Work with local site and central Safety leadership to implement and audit safety programs. Ensure compliance with safety procedures.
- Maintain and improve preventative maintenance programs and relationships with operations leadership and field teams.
- Provide enriched feedback to enhance performance and work flexible schedules.
- Be available to support emergency service calls out-of-town for malfunctioning equipment, including on-site deployment.
- Comply with all company and federally established policies and procedures.
- Use computer systems to perform communications, training and administrative tasks; complete forms for work assignments per procedures.
- Complete all safety training as assigned and comply with ELS safety programs and local safety policies.
- Perform additional duties as required by management.
Position Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
- Minimum 4 years experience in maintenance and repair of Baggage Handling Systems, Passenger Boarding Bridges, Ground Service Equipment, and electrical automation systems.
- Excellent time management and interpersonal skills.
- Travel up to three weeks at a time.
- Knowledge of general workplace safety requirements and procedures.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Job is based in Carrollton Texas, with possible remote/home office if not based in the DFW metroplex.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Electrical/Mechatronics/Automation education or related field.
- Wireman, Journeyman or Master Electrician License or equivalent.
- OSHA 30, safety/training experience, welding or machine shop experience.
- Knowledge of airport support equipment (PCA s, GPU s, PWC s).
- Solid experience with maintenance, repairs and troubleshooting of BHS/PBB/GSE equipment.
- Computer skills: MS Office, Excel, Outlook.
