Summary

Repair Technician I

Portable Metrology Division

Location: Novi, Michigan (On-site)

Shift: 1st - 7:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence is seeking a Repair Technician I to join our Portable Metrology Service team in Novi, Michigan.

This position focuses primarily on the repair, troubleshooting, calibration, and testing of articulated measuring arms within our portable metrology product line. As you develop your expertise, you will receive cross‑training on additional Hexagon products, creating excellent long‑term career growth opportunities.

This is a hands‑on role requiring strong electro‑mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to diagnose complex equipment issues in a collaborative team environment.

Job Responsibilities
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and calibrate articulated measuring arms and related portable metrology equipment.
  • Perform functional testing to verify repairs meet engineering and quality standards.
  • Disassemble, repair, and reassemble mechanical assemblies and electrical wiring/components.
  • Troubleshoot electronic boards and micro‑electronic components.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, repair documentation, technical manuals, and work instructions.
  • Document repair activities and complete service reports accurately.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance and equipment servicing.
  • Maintain calibration status of tools and equipment used during repairs.
  • Work closely with fellow technicians to troubleshoot complex issues and determine root causes.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives that improve product quality, repair efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Participate in product and technical training to expand repair capabilities across additional product lines.
Qualifications

Required

  • Associate degree in Electronics, Mechanical Technology, Mechatronics, Industrial Maintenance, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience repairing electro‑mechanical equipment.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems and electronic components.
  • Ability to repair small precision mechanical assemblies.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and technical documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Comfortable working in a collaborative team environment.
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills.

Preferred

  • Experience repairing articulated measuring arms or portable metrology equipment.
  • Experience with CMMs, portable measurement systems, or industrial precision equipment.
  • Understanding of ISO 17025 or similar quality systems.
  • Experience using service management software such as SMAX.
Work Environment

Employees must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

This position primarily works in a repair laboratory with occasional time spent in manufacturing or office environments.

Responsibilities include:

  • Frequent use of precision hand tools and testing equipment
  • Standing and sitting for extended periods
  • Occasional bending, kneeling, and lifting up to 75 pounds
  • Frequent computer work and documentation
  • Use of PPE when required
  • Occasional travel (up to 10%)
