Location:

Nutley, NJ.

The laboratory of Dr. Milena Kordalewska at Hackensack Meridian Health is seeking a dedicated Research Specialist focused on antifungal drug development. This role advances translational research, tackling emerging and drug-resistant fungal pathogens, and contributes to preclinical drug discovery to improve patient outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct in vitro evaluations to determine the potency and spectrum of activity of novel antifungal compounds.
  • Perform molecular biology assays to elucidate mechanisms of action and resistance.
  • Assist in conducting in vivo drug efficacy models in rodents to assess the therapeutic potential of lead candidates.
Desired Laboratory Experience
  • Microbial cultures, particularly yeasts and filamentous fungi.
  • Drug susceptibility testing.
  • In vitro and in vivo biofilm models.
Required Education, Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent training.
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Flexible work schedule; availability to work occasional weekends or extended hours.
  • Lab‑specific technical skills (e.g., culture handling, pipetting).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
Preferred Education, Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • B.Sc. or Master's degree.
  • Experience in a BSL‑2/3 laboratory facility.
  • Experience with small animal handling.
  • Other laboratory‑specific skills.
Compensation and Benefits

Minimum rate of $21.40 per hour. HMH offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, vision, paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and retirement benefits.
