The Research Associate in Immunopathology of Mycobacteria, CDI will work in the Gengenbacher lab studying the immunopathology of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium abscessus
. The research focuses on the interaction of these pathogens with the host and on translating new insights into novel therapeutic strategies (vaccines, host-directed therapies) evaluated in preclinical models. Knowledge or experience in host immunity, high‑parameter flow cytometry and data analysis, multiplex technology, cellular immune assays, and pre‑clinical animal models of infection will be useful. Under guidance of senior lab members and the PI, the Research Associate will lead and perform immunity‑centered experiments with the technical team and analyze and present data in lab meetings and conferences, with the goal of publishing results in peer‑reviewed journals.

National and international collaborations will provide stimulating interactions with experts in basic research and translational medicine.

• Conduct research and/or laboratory specific tasks and experiments under direct supervision.
• Collect, analyze, and interpret data.
• Create reports from analysis of initial observations and conclusions.
• Present findings to higher level staff.
• Review experimental protocols, design, and documentation.
• Handle moderately complex issues and problems, and refer more complex issues to higher‑level staff.
• Participate in design and performance of research projects.
• Mentor students or research assistants.
• Publish results in reputable peer‑reviewed journals.
• Perform general laboratory functions including equipment maintenance and restocking.
• Present results in internal and external research forums.
• Write manuscripts and grants, as appropriate.
• Seek funding from NIH or foundation sources, as appropriate.
• Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
• Adhere to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

• Hold a M.D. or Ph.D. Degree in a relevant science with a minimum of two years as a Postdoctoral research fellow, or a Master's Degree in a relevant science with a minimum of three years of related research experience.
• Minimum publication or in‑preparation of two articles as first author in high quality peer‑reviewed scientific journals.
• Experience conducting and designing research projects.
• Possesses solid working knowledge of subject matter.
• Demonstrated involvement in research program development, performance improvement, and research activities.
• Lab specific technical skills.
• Strong organization skills with attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

• Experience working in a BSL2/BSL3 lab facility.

Minimum rate of $63,336.00 Annually. HMH is committed to pay equity and transparency for our team members.
