Job Title: Postdoctoral Fellow in Systems Neuroscience

Location: Nutley/NJ, US
The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will be working in the lab of Dr. Bon‑Mi Gu performing research on basal ganglia circuits involved in sleep, locomotion, and respiration. The research will involve in vivo electrophysiology, fiber photometry, optogenetics and pharmacological manipulations in mouse models of basal ganglia disorders, including Parkinson’s disease. Knowledge and/or experience in the following areas will be useful to the position.
- PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in systems neuroscience, physiology, biomedical sciences, or a related field.
- Prior experience in one or more of the following methodologies: optogenetics, fiber photometry, electrophysiology, rodent behavioral assays, respiration‑related research, Matlab or Python programming.
- Conducts research and/or laboratory tasks and experiments under direct supervision.
- Collects, analyzes and interprets data.
- Creates reports from analysis of initial observations and conclusions.
- Presents findings to higher level staff.
- Presents results in internal and external research forums such as scientific conferences, lab meetings and institutional seminars.
- Handles moderately complex issues and problems and refers more complex issues to higher‑level staff.
- Participates in grant and manuscript writing, as appropriate.
- Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
- Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
- A Ph.D. degree in scientific or related discipline.
- Minimum publication or in preparation of one article as first author in a reputable peer‑reviewed journal.
- Excellent written and verbal skills
- Good problem solving skills.
- Ability to conduct independent research.
- Ability to work effectively in a team.
- Lab specific techniques. (Varies by lab)
- Proficient computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office and Google Suite platforms.
