Overview
The Hackensack Meridian Health Center for Discovery and Innovation (CDI) is offering a Sr. Research Associate position in the field of infectious and inflammatory diseases. The lab focuses on drug discovery against multidrug resistant bacterial infections, mechanisms of antifungal drug resistance, studies of drug action at sites of infection, rapid detection of drug resistant bloodstream and respiratory pathogens in high-risk patients, and the application of small animal models for high-threat pathogens.
Key areas of focus include:
- Drug discovery against multidrug resistant bacteria causing systemic and wound infections.
- Rapid detection of respiratory and bloodstream infections and associated resistance markers.
- Developing and running BSL2/BSL3 small animal infection models for bacterial, fungal, and viral pathogens.
- Delivering small animal infection models for ESKAPE, TB, and select agent bacterial pathogens to evaluate lead compounds.
- Conduct in vitro and in vivo research and laboratory tasks under general supervision.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret data.
- Create reports from initial observations and conclusions.
- Recommend changes to experimental protocols, design, and documentation.
- Handle complex issues and refer only the most complex issues to higher-level staff.
- Provide coaching and mentoring.
- Present findings at national conferences.
- Publish results in reputable peer‑reviewed journals.
- Hold an M.D. or Ph.D. degree from an accredited institution and a minimum of four years of post‑doctoral research experience, or a master's degree in a relevant science with a minimum of five years of related research experience.
- Minimum of two peer‑reviewed publications from prior work experience.
- Experience conducting and designing research projects.
- Experience working with animal infection models in infectious disease for at least one year.
- Possesses comprehensive knowledge of the subject matter.
- Strong organization skills with attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
The starting rate of pay is provided for informational purposes only and is not a guarantee of a specific offer. Base compensation may differ based on market data, experience, education, skills, geographic location, internal equity, and budget/Grant funding. The minimum annual rate is $73,153.60.
