Our client is a Modern Healthcare and Fast Company award winner seeking a Director of Accounting & Finance to lead and strengthen their accounting operations while serving as a strategic partner to the executive team. Reporting directly to the CFO, this leader will oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, controls, budgeting, forecasting, audit coordination, and process improvement initiatives.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting expertise with a hands-on mindset, excellent business judgment, and a passion for continuous improvement. This role offers significant visibility and influence across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide accurate and timely financial reporting to support executive decision-making.
- Lead preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger activities through the Senior Manager of Accounting.
- Drive an efficient month-end close process with a target close cycle of fewer than 10 business days.
- Develop, maintain, and strengthen accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, and financial analysis activities.
- Coordinate annual audits and tax filings while serving as the primary liaison with external auditors and tax advisors.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax requirements.
- Evaluate accounting systems, reporting capabilities, and operational workflows to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Partner with leadership to assess business risks and support strategic initiatives.
- Develop and mentor accounting team members while fostering accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Complete special projects and other initiatives as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- MBA or Master's degree is a plus.
- CPA or CMA certification preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
- Experience leading financial reporting, month-end close, audits, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls.
- Experience with in a small to mid-sized business, startup, or high-growth environment preferred.
- Prior experience in a healthcare industry
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and accounting best practices.
- Proficiency in Quick Books Online and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Adaptable and comfortable with change.
- Curious, resourceful, and eager to learn.
- Equally comfortable thinking strategically and executing tactically.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Motivated by ownership, accountability, and visible impact.
- Enjoys building processes and improving systems rather than simply maintaining them.
