Purpose Statement

The School Counselor Elementary provides a comprehensive school counseling program for students in K through grade 5. The counselor supports students' academic achievement, social/emotional development, and career awareness while collaborating with staff, families, and the community to promote overall student success.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Assist with registration and enrollment processes to ensure appropriate student placement and successful middle school transition.
  • Collaborate with school personnel to develop and implement individual and group plans addressing social/emotional, academic, and career development needs.
  • Collect and analyze program data to evaluate effectiveness and support continuous improvement efforts.
  • Coordinate with teachers, specialists, and community agencies to share information and provide recommendations to support student growth.
  • Provide individual and small group counseling services to students and consult with parents/guardians to enhance student success.
  • Develop and communicate the purpose and components of the school counseling program to students, staff, parents, and the community.
  • Implement the comprehensive elementary school counseling curriculum aligned with district and state standards.
  • Monitor student progress and identify concerns to proactively increase student achievement.
  • Plan and facilitate social/emotional, academic, and career development activities.
  • Prepare reports, documentation, correspondence, and program materials to support services and compliance.
  • Respond to student crisis situations, assess risk, and collaborate to ensure student and staff safety in accordance with district policies and regulations.
  • Supervise assigned programs and initiatives to ensure effective implementation and alignment with curriculum objectives.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the school.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid Missouri School Counselor certification (Elementary)
  • Master's degree in School Counseling or related field
  • Successful completion of background screening

  • Deliver classroom guidance lessons and small group interventions
  • Utilize relevant technology and software applications

Responsibility

This position operates under limited supervision while following district policies and standardized practices. The School Counselor may lead and coordinate programs, collaborate across departments, and contribute to building-level initiatives.
