Educational Support Counselor

Purpose Statement

The Francis Howell School District is committed to recruiting and retaining high-quality staff who are dedicated to creating a positive, student-centered learning environment. The Educational Support Counselor provides comprehensive counseling services to support students' academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individual and group counseling to students
  • Support students and families through crisis intervention and case management
  • Conduct individual and/or family assessments
  • Collaborate with school staff and outside agencies to support student needs
  • Utilize trauma-informed practices and promote positive, restorative approaches
  • Assist in connecting families with community resources and services
  • Maintain knowledge of school law, policies, and special education processes
Job Requirements
  • Strong understanding of child and adolescent development and family dynamics
  • Knowledge of mental health disorders and effective counseling interventions
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and staff
  • Skilled in collaboration, communication, and problem-solving
  • Experience with trauma-informed practices and alternatives to exclusionary discipline
Education and Experience
  • Master's degree required
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) required
  • Previous experience in counseling or social work with children required
  • School-based experience preferred

Additional Compensation
