Mental Health Professional (District Office)

Starting Date: Immediately

Position Purpose / Summary

The Mental Health Professional promotes and enhances the overall academic mission by providing services that strengthen relationships with home, school and community partners, and address barriers to learning and academic achievement. The professional works with students promptly during crisis situations, using constructive, supportive and non‑judgmental language. Service delivery includes one‑on‑one and group settings to support social‑emotional needs related to truancy, non‑attendance, behavioral patterns indicating potential substance use/abuse, and emotional, family or social struggles.

Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling, Psychology, or Social Work.
  • Preferred licensure in Missouri (LPC, LMSW, or LCSW). Related degrees with counseling or social work experience and state licensure may also be considered.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Consult and cooperate with administrators, school resource officers, teachers, counselors and nurses to assess students’ mental and emotional states.
  • Consult with and counsel parents to improve home situations and promote better school work, behavior and attendance.
  • Act as liaison between the school and outside agencies such as the Children’s Division, Juvenile Court and other child welfare organizations.
  • Maintain an on‑premises office with a telephone equipped with automatic answering equipment, available 24‑hours.
  • Conduct home visits to gather information and build cooperative home‑school relationships.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to connect students and families with community resources.
  • Work with administrators and school counselors on attendance information and follow up on chronic absenteeism cases that have not responded to school supports.
  • Serve as liaison between home and school as needed and advocate for appropriate services for students and their families.
  • Participate in staff meetings and student personnel team discussions on concerns.
  • Provide support to students and parents regarding attendance and social‑emotional needs, fostering a cooperative relationship.
  • Facilitate communication and connection between school personnel and parent/guardian to improve student outcomes.
  • Collect data on mental health interventions and student progress for monitoring service effectiveness.
  • Maintain an up‑to‑date directory of referral services for crisis situations such as suicide, alcohol and/or drug problems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the superintendent or designee.
  • Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with administrators, staff and community stakeholders.
  • Mental and Physical Demands

    Mental:
    Ability to maintain confidentiality, communicate clearly, reason and make appropriate decisions, solve problems in varied situations, and maintain strong attention to detail.

    Physical:
    Regular standing, walking, sitting, talking and presenting. Occasional lifting up to 20 lbs.

    Terms of Employment

    At‑will employment concurrent with the teacher work calendar plus 20 days assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of Special Services, or until the deployment ends. Workday consists of 7½ hours (including a non‑paid 30‑minute lunch period). The daily schedule will be established by the building principal and approved by the Assistant Superintendent of Special Services.

    Evaluation

    Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the Board’s policy on evaluation of support personnel.
