Additional Information About the Role

BJC Health Care System is hiring a Full-Time Generalist Medical Laboratory Technologist (MT/MLS II) for the Core Lab located at Missouri Baptist Medical Center.

Position Details

• Overnight Shift: 6:30pm – 7am
• 3 12-hour shifts per week
• Additional Pay:
  Differential for night, weekend, and holiday shifts, increasing hourly wages
• Weekend & Holiday Rotation:
  Every 3rd weekend; 1-2 holidays per year
• Full-time, non-remote, Generalist Lab Technologist
• Core Lab Responsibilities:
  Customer service, sendouts, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology/Coagulation, Processing, Urinalysis
• Lab Equipment:
  Cerner Millennium (LIS), Epic, Instrument Manager, Sysmex WAM, Cellavision, Biorad Unity, Wellsky, Roche, Ortho-Visions

Experience: Lab experience (preferred)

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Physical/Life Sciences or related field
• ASCP, AMT, or AAB Registration

Role Purpose

The Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) II performs specimen processing and routine/complex testing on blood and other specimens, requiring knowledge of quality control, basic instrument maintenance, and procedure methodologies and reference ranges. Maintains appropriate documentation of all activities as required. Demonstrates good clinical laboratory practice.

Responsibilities

• Operate all instrumentation in assigned areas to deliver precise, timely, and accurate laboratory results. Perform all testing and operate equipment as necessary to deliver quality results.
• Train new laboratory personnel in methods, procedures and use of equipment specific to the assigned area.
• Perform quality controls for all equipment and troubleshoot malfunctioning instrumentation as necessary. Assess technical or instrument problems, including quality control and abnormal findings, evaluate possible solutions and choose an appropriate course of action to solve the problem.
• Report and maintain record of patient test results through the laboratory computer system, accurately meeting published turn-around times for routine testing and stat results.
• Participate in performance improvement activities by proactively diagnosing and resolving problems. Handle quality functions in an organized and timely fashion.
