Middleware Engineer

The Digital Service Delivery team is looking for a candidate who can help us solve problems, build and maintain our middleware components, and lead in Middleware automation and best practices.

Web Platform Engineering is responsible for the automation, build and configuration of mission critical middleware infrastructure for all web-based applications and services. Our team of Engineers is engaged early in the project lifecycle to ensure, along with other vital teams, that the technical design, the final build and configuration of the web infrastructure meets requirements for speed to market, security, sizing, performance, and resiliency.

Major Accountabilities for this role:

• Responsible for the build and implementation of new middleware components such as JBoss, Tomcat, F5 (BIG-IP), Webseal/ISAM, Apache, using configuration management tools like Chef.
• Collaborate with Development teams to discuss, analyze, or resolve application and usability issues and suggest engaging the Infrastructure Design Architect for any new requirements which are not defined in standard architecture design document (TAD).
• Document build, installation, and configuration procedures to allow operational maintenance and repetition as well as accountability for maintaining this documentation.
• Implement complex security integration utilizing mSSL/mTLS, mutual authentication, hardware certificates, software certificates, dynamic endpoints, and other security models.
• Implement Enterprise Monitoring configurations to integrate systems to Dynatrace, Splunk, etc.
• Participate in the project's environment shakedown testing and troubleshooting efforts as required.
• Responsible for project handover to the Web operations team with handover documentation from a Web infrastructure perspective.

Education (preferred):
Bachelors Degree in Computer Sciences, or Information Systems, or equivalent experience. All About You

• Advanced knowledge of Internet architecture and project delivery.
• Intermediate knowledge of application containers (JBoss, Tomcat)
• Intermediate knowledge of how the Java Virtual Machine works, how Garbage collection works.
• Intermediate knowledge of web servers (Apache, NGINX)
• Intermediate knowledge of load balancers and web application firewalls
• Intermediate knowledge of network and operating system principles
• Knowledge of Access Management tools like ISAM Webseal or Siteminder is a plus.
• Experience with automation (Chef, scripting)
