Machine Operator B

Primary Function

Operate various types of grinding equipment to remove excess stock and gates from routine castings.

Grinding machines, fixtures, electronic media, etc.

Aluminum, copper, and brass based castings, grinding belts, etc.

Under the guidance and direction of the department supervisor, the group leader, and/or the Machine Operator

A. The following are the usual major job duties but this job description does not preclude the performance of other duties by the incumbent.

• Shall adhere to all safety requirements as posted on the job safety card.
• Shall consistently follow all applicable work instructions.
• Shall receive daily work assignments from the department supervisor or group leader.
• Shall remove excess metal and gate stubs from castings using care to maintain casting dimensions and acceptable cosmetic appearance.
• Shall maintain inter-related dimensions between holes, surfaces and right angles, with a high demand for squareness, and parallelism.
• Shall visually inspect all castings for obvious defects, notifying the supervisor of such.
• Shall maintain batch integrity.
• Shall replace grinding belts as necessary.
• Shall move the castings to the next operation per the process sheet.
• Shall maintain all labor vouchers, records, and files, in addition to a variety of logs where accuracy is paramount, and enter all required information into the Company software in a timely manner.
• Shall maintain work area in a clean and orderly condition.
• Shall attend and successfully complete hazardous material / waste handling classes.
• Shall attend and successfully complete training in the proper techniques of lifting.
• Shall attend and successfully complete lock out / tag out training classes.
• Shall perform other duties as assigned.

Shall work in an area where airborne grinding dust is present.

• Must have good working knowledge of personal computers and related software.
• Must be able to handle the physical demands of the job.
